The Reim program runs social groups in community centers across the country, for children, youth and adults on the autistic spectrum, offering tools to deal with communication difficulties, learning disabilities and social adjustment. The Reim program mentors participants through every stage of life, together with their peer group. Meetings take place in community centers which contributes to participants’ sense of self-esteem and social integration.
Professionals facilitate the groups, enabling participants to work on social skills in a real social setting and learn from actual experience. The weekly meeting in the community center comprises discussion, activities, role play and deliberation. In addition to the meetings, there are group social outings; for example, participants watch a movie in the cinema, organize picnics, bowling, and sit in cafes. The purpose is for participants to enjoy themselves with an emphasis on developing necessary life skills and participating in life experiences.
Professional guidance also takes place outside of the group meetings, initiated by individuals who are in contact with one another – they arrange to get together in pairs, subgroups and even with the entire group. In addition, participants receive help in communicating with one another via Whatsapp, Facebook and telephone calls.
This program operates in the following towns: Kiryat Ono, Haifa, Rison LeTzion, Jerusalem, Tsur Hadassah, Netanya, Modiin and more.
